Description

Nursing Commencement and Pinning Service 2021 Commencement: We are pleased to announce Pacific Union College will be hosting our Nursing commencement and pinning service on-campus on Sunday, June 13, 2021, at 4:00 pm. College commencement is a high point in the lives of our students and their families, and we are excited to honor and celebrate our graduates on the beautiful Maxwell Commons. Pinning: Florence Nightingale is the first nurse known to have been presented with a professional nursing pin, awarded by Queen Victoria for her outstanding patient care to soldiers during the Crimean War. The Associate of Science graduates’ pin is in the form of a Greek cross, which has become a symbol of unselfish nursing service given with professional knowledge and skill. The lamp in the center of the pin symbolizes the relief of suffering by nurses who give love, caring, and healing. The Bachelor of Science graduates’ pin has three circles surrounded by a laurel wreath. Within the inner circle is a flaming torch denoting Christ as the light of the world, and an open book which represents the book of life and the wisdom of the scriptures. The next circle contains the motto of the college, “They shall be all taught of God,” and the outer circle identifies the college name, Pacific Union College. The wreath signifies the achievement of the victors of the baccalaureate nursing program.
