Join us for a interactive day in the South Bay aboard our 90' research vessel. Touch sharks and batrays, crabs, snails, and much more! Join the Marine Science Institute for a 4.5-hour exploration of the San Francisco Bay aboard the 90-foot research vessel, the R.V. Robert G. Brownlee and discover the life in the estuary and how we are connected to it. Working as a team, participants deploy a 16 foot trawl net to bring fishes on board, set a Peterson Mud Grab to collect a sample of sediment from the bottom of the bay (the benthos) to examine closely to discover live invertebrates, and lastly observe and discuss live plant and animal plankton using a microscope and digital display. Don't forget a lunch because you will get to enjoy it while cruising around the South Bay! What an exciting day! Must be at least 5 years old to board; This program is open for single children or family groups. All attendees must register. Any unregistered attendees will not be allowed to participate. This includes any guardians, if you wish to attend with your child, you also need to register. Newly implemented safety precautions due to Covid require all participants to wear mask and practice social distancing. Our facilities have been prepared with your family and our staff’s safety in mind. Please comply to standard health and safety screenings upon arrival, including a health questionnaire, temperature check, and mandatory handwashing. MSI Event Cancellation and Refund Policy: No refunds for cancellations made within two weeks of the program start date. MSI will fully refund fees if the session is cancelled. Please note our events still take place rain or shine including our Discovery Voyages unless deemed a safety issue by the ship's Captain. Should MSI cancel an event for any reason you will be notified via the contact information provided through registration and be issued a full refund.
