MELROSE, MA — The impacts from a major water main break on the Lynn Fells Parkway will be felt into Wednesday morning and perhaps for quite some time after. Mayor Paul Brodeur said late Tuesday night the break was expected to disrupt the morning commute, particularly to the Roosevelt, Middle and High Schools. Vinton Street from Lynn Fells Parkway to Glen Road will remain closed to vehicles and pedestrians until at least the end of Wednesday. The break on near Tremont Street had been isolated and water pressure was returning to normal, the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority said Tuesday night. As of 11:30 p.m., crews were still out working on it. Parts of the city had to deal with water pressure issues and discoloration following the MWRA break. Police were blocking off Lynn Fells Parkway at Tremont. The scene was covered in mud and rushing water. Repairs to the area could take quite some time. The asphalt was lifted and cracked by the pressure. The cause of the break is not yet known. If you are experiencing discolored water, you should run it cold until it becomes clear.
