Framingham Sheraton Gets OK For Alcohol, Entertainment

FRAMINGHAM, MA — The new operators of the iconic Sheraton Hotel in Framingham got the OK Monday night to sell alcohol and provide entertainment. The hotel was sold at auction in late 2020 and closed briefly while the new owners took over. The Board of License Commissioners granted the transfer of several key licenses to Colwen Management, which will operate the Sheraton under a lease with the owner. People's United Bank, based in Bridgeport, Conn., purchased the hotel in December for $15 million. With the licenses in hand, the hotel can begin serving alcohol again. The hotel's The Postern Grille has been temporarily closed. Two people who helped run the hotel before the December sale will be running the restaurant, a Colwen attorney told the license commissioners on Monday. Colwen operates more than 30 hotels in Massachusetts, Georgia, New York, New Hampshire and Florida under brands like Hilton, Holiday Inn and Marriott. The Framingham Sheraton is one of a handful of castle-like hotels that used to carry the Sheraton Tara brand. There are also examples located in Braintree, Nashua, NH, and northern New Jersey.
