Waukesha Announces Historic Preservation Month Events

WAUKESHA, WI - The City of Waukesha and the Waukesha Preservation Alliance announced on Tuesday the upcoming Historic Preservation month activities as part of the City's 125th Anniversary celebrations. The virtual and self-directed events will kick-off May 1 and run throughout the month of May. Historic Preservation month events include a variety of activities such as an Architectural Scavenger Hunt, where participants will search through the historic sections of the City to locate details of buildings. Forms are available on the Waukesha Preservation Alliance website or at the Waukesha County Historical Society & Museum to play along. The top five winners will receive a private downtown walking tour given by Marilyn Hagerstrand at a future date. In addition to the Scavenger Hunt, the Waukesha Preservation Alliance Facebook page will feature a daily Waukesha Trivia question. The month concludes with an online presentation, Waukesha's Historic Districts, presented by Lisa Salb on Sat., May 22 from 12:30 p.m. -1:30 p.m. Learn which historic Waukesha properties have made the National Register of Historic Places, what that means, and how historic preservation benefits the community. The presentation will be shown on Facebook Live by visiting the Waukesha County Historical Society & Museum's Facebook page. Additional opportunities during the month of May include: The History of Waukesha in 100 Objects exhibit at the Waukesha County Historical Society & Museum; self-guided tours of the Prairie Home Cemetery; and the Waukesha Landmarks Commission Awards Ceremony as part of the City's Common Council meeting on May 4, 2021. The Waukesha Preservation Alliance is a community-based group of citizens dedicated to the preservation of historic properties in the greater Waukesha area.
