ISLIP, NY — Islip High School announced its Class of 2021 valedictorian and salutatorian on Tuesday.
Lauren Callaway was named as this year's valedictorian and Jessica Chan was named salutatorian.
Callaway, who earned a 103.16 weighted GPA, serves as president of the school's English Honor Society.
She has received the Girl Scouts Gold Award and was chosen for Empire Girls State and Brookhaven National Laboratory's Student Partnerships for Advanced Research and Knowledge.
She is also a member of Islip's Science Olympiad in addition to playing on the varsity softball and tennis teams.
Callaway will attend Georgia Institute of Technology, majoring in biomedical engineering.
"I'd like to thank my family, friends, and teachers who supported me during the past four years," she said.
Chan received a 102.89 weighted GPA and serves as vice president of the school's National Honor Society.
She is also a member of Islip's student government, Mathletes and robotics teams, and Math and English honor societies.
Chan will attend Carnegie Mellon University, majoring in computer engineering
"I am so thankful for my family, friends, and Islip for not only supporting me, but offering countless opportunities, which has helped me obtain this great achievement," Chan said.
