HARLEM, NY — Police have declared a homicide in the case of a dead man found stuffed inside a plastic bag in a Harlem apartment last week, authorities said Tuesday.
The victim, identified only as a 37-year-old man, was found around 3 p.m. Friday, stuffed inside a plastic bag in a sixth-floor apartment at 770 St. Nicholas Ave., police said.
The body was discovered by an elderly man, his home health aide, and a third person who arrived at the home Friday, the Daily News reported. Neighbors had reportedly complained for days about a bad smell emanating from the apartment.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene. The medical examiner will determine a cause of death, while the victim's name is being withheld pending proper family notification, police said.
An investigation is ongoing.
