It's only the second match of the season for high school golf, but don't tell Staples' junior Leni Lemcke. The Wreckers number one golfer is already in mid-season form, firing a 2-over par 40 (from the white tees) in the Girls' Varsity Golf victory over FCIAC rival Greenwich on Monday at Longshore. Her low round lead a team effort in the 190-210 win. "It was a great day and our opponents were friendly," the match medalist said after she handed in her scorecard. Supporting Lemcke with 49's were sophomore Keeva Boyle and junior Lizzie Kuehndorf, and senior Co-Captain Linnea Jagenberg (52). Sophomore Reilly McGeehan and freshman Kathleen Coffey rounded out the lineup. Kuehndorf is the only Wrecker with varsity experience. Two years ago as a freshman she scored in every Varsity match, and last year's season was suspended due to COVID. "It was super nice getting out there, especially after no season last year. And everyone played super well," commented the happy golfer. "It was a windy day and Staples Golf was able to use the wind to our favor and get a win," Jagenberg added to sum up the afternoon. The JV team also stands at 2-0 after posting a 228-241 result over its Greenwich counterparts. Staples' sophomore Ellery Vishno was a dominant force playing number one JV, carding a 45 from the yellow tees. Elle Laub (59), Viola Geisman (60) and Amanda Green (64) added to the 13-stroke victory. Chelsea Cuseo and Lila Botur also played for the Wreckers. Cammie Rubino and Sienna Peck followed up with strong practice rounds; unfortunately the Cardinals were able to only field a team of four for the eight jv hosts. "Today's match was really fun, and staying in a positive mindset helped me improve my game!" Vishno theorized. The Wreckers Varsity host St. Joe's Tuesday, and both squads travel to Ridgefield Thursday.
