CORAL HILLS, MD — Police announced Sunday that they charged three people connected to a double shooting in Coral Hills on April 20. Officers added that one victim, who was pregnant, died. The baby and the other victim survived, an incident report clarified. The Charges Officials said they charged these suspects, all of whom are from the District of Columbia: 21-year-old Malik JohnsonHis brother, 22-year-old Michael Johnson23-year-old Bianca McDuffie Detectives concluded that Malik Johson was the shooter. They think Michael Johnson is the father of the newborn. Police still don't know what motivated the shooting. Officers wrote that Malik Johnson faces these charges: One count of first-degree murderOne count of second-degree murderTwo counts of attempted first-degree murder, related to the surviving victim and the babyTwo counts of attempted second-degree murder, related to the surviving victim and the baby Police accused Michael Johnson and McDuffie of helping the suspect avoid arrest. Officers shared that they charged them with accessory after the fact. Officials reported that they found the trio in McDuffie's home. Police noted that the group is in custody in Washington, D.C., but they await extradition to Prince George's County. The Shooting The write-up identified the deceased victim as 18-year-old J'Lyn Quinones of Suitland. Doctors delivered her child in emergency surgery, the press release added. Police mentioned that the infant is still in the hospital. The Prince George's County Police Department indicated that the crime happened less than a block inside the Maryland border. Officers advised that the victims were shot while they were crossing Quinn Street near Southern Avenue. The release explained that the women then ran down Southern Avenue and stepped into the District of Columbia while they sought help. The Metropolitan Police Department spotted the women a block away from the scene around 4:45 p.m., the report informed. Officers stated that they found the victims at the intersection of Rail Street and Southern Avenue in Southeast Washington, D.C. The map below shows that area. Police shared that medics took the two women to an unnamed hospital where Quinones died soon after. Detectives asked anybody with information to call 301-516-2512.
