Math Scholars' University Math Scholars' University (formerly known as MASCOT) is a two-week program designed to serve students who are identified as having high abilities or interest in mathematics. This program challenges students to develop a better understanding of mathematics using problem solving applications, mathematical reasoning and collaboration. Math Scholars' University is for students in grades 6 or 7 during 2020-21. The topics of Math Scholars' University are intended to supplement, complement and extend mathematics taught in the classroom during the school year. The choice of topics is based on current research in mathematics and knowledge about how children learn. The instruction focuses on cooperative learning and builds on children’s prior mathematical knowledge. This program is sponsored by Ingham Intermediate School District and partially funded by a grant from The W.B. and Candace Thoman Foundation. Eligibility Math Scholars' University 2021 is open to students who: were in grade 6 or 7 during 2020-21have an interest in mathematicshave demonstrated high potential for development in mathematics and related fieldsSafety Protocol Face masks requiredDaily Health ScreeningAdherence to Ingham County Health Department RecommendationsAdditional Safety Measures Bi-polar ionization units in all air handlersMERV 9 rated filters & increase filter changes100% fresh air circulationIncreased DisinfectingSchedule Math Scholars' University 2021 will operate from Monday, July 12 through Friday, July 23, 2021 from 8:30 am to 11:30 am each weekday at the Wilson Talent Center at 611 Hagadorn Road, Mason MI 48854. Scholarship Terms Full scholarships and transportation assistance are available for students currently enrolled in the Lansing School District. A copy of your student's most recent progress report must be submitted for consideration. Partial scholarships are available to students outside of the Lansing School District with proof of income. A copy of your 2020 federal tax return must be submitted for consideration (redact social security numbers please). Transportation must be provided by the parents/family to and from the program.
