Description

SAN RAFAEL, CA — San Rafael is studying design alternatives for installing a full trash capture device in the Canal neighborhood, city officials said. The project will place a trash capture device near the outflow where pump stations discharge water into the bay. The project aims to move San Rafael into compliance with a new law requiring the city to reduce trash reaching the bay. A location at Pickleweed Park near the Tiscornia marshland is the preferred site among two the city is currently looking at, city officials said. Costs, environmental impacts, and ability to meet grant deadlines for timely use of funds are among the factors under consideration in the feasibility study, city officials said. The city has hired a consultant team that will further review the environmental impacts, including delineation of wetlands, and understand hydraulic impacts to the Kerner Blvd storm water pump station, before the study is finalized.
