LEMONT, IL — Construction on McCarthy Road will be starting this week, Director of Public Works Ralph Pukula said during Monday's village board meeting.
"We are waiting on IDOT to approve an environmental procedure," Pukula said. "It should be starting hopefully at the end of this week, and it's going to be moving very quickly, so be safe out there."
Pukula said the construction will be going on all summer.
The scope of the project is Stephen Street from Illinois Street, up the hill and past [Central] school, and all the way to Barton Drive, which is just west of Walker Road, Pukula said.
"We're going to be grinding and repaving McCarthy Road, the whole thing, along with some bike lanes that are going to be 4-foot wide in some locations, and 6-foot wide in some others," Pukula said.
The board approved the bike lane project in March, and it will cost $167,907, of which 80 percent will be funded by federal funds.
"It's going to look great, it's going to allow the bicycles to travel from Walker Road down to Illinois Street to downtown," Pukula said.
