LA GRANGE, IL — Two departing members of the La Grange Village Board said Monday the village needs more money to take care of streets. Trustees David McCarty and Bill Holder made the comments before the board unanimously approved the annual budget. They both decided against running in the April 6 election. "I can't leave without warning that we do need more money," McCarty told the board. "The streets need help. We do need to find more ways to find more income in this town." Holder echoed McCarty. "We've been able to hold our budgets steady, but we do need to start investing in our infrastructure. I agree with Trustee McCarty 100 percent," Holder said. "The look and feel of our wonderful village starts to look a little tattered around this time of the year, and (the public works crew) can only keep up so much when we're patching and patching, instead of replacing and replacing." So he said the village should find a way to bring in more income. "If it's a bond, that's fine because I think it benefits the look and feel and the pleasure of the village for every single resident, business and visitor," Holder said. Neither McCarty nor Holder mentioned taxes in their comments. Next month, Peggy Peterson and Michael Matteucci are set to become the new trustees. The board is made up of a president and six trustees.
