UPPER EAST SIDE, NY ā A 20-year-old man was shot and killed Monday on the Upper East Side while he sat in a car on a residential street, police said.
The shooting happened around 2:13 p.m. in front of 134 East 95th St., on a brownstone-lined block just west of Lexington Avenue.
Police believe the victim was sitting in the car when the gunman approached on foot and fired inside the vehicle, hitting the victim in the abdomen. The suspect then fled in a light-colored sedan, polie said.
The victim was brought to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead later Monday afternoon, a police spokesperson said.
It was unclear whether the victim and suspect knew each other. Police have not identified the suspect, and the victim's name has not been released.
No arrests have been made and an investigation is ongoing, police said.
Police blocked off parts of East 95th Street as they investigated the shooting, warning the public to avoid the area.

Reports of crimes including burglary, robbery, assault have all dropped compared to the same period in 2020, while car theft and rape are the only categories seeing an increase.
Only one murder was reported in the neighborhood last year.
