BROOKHAVEN, GA — Brookhaven residents will have another opportunity to ask questions and provide input on the city's proposed redistricting maps Wednesday morning. The Brookhaven Chamber of Commerce is hosting a redistricting information breakfast Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. at Lynwood Recreation Center, featuring Brookhaven City Attorney Chris Balch and Joe Gebbia, district 4 council member and mayor pro tem. The first town hall on the redistricting maps took place last week. Residents will be able to weigh in during public hearings and public comment portions of the breakfast — which is a joint session between the chamber and the city — either in person or virtually. A livestream can be viewed on the city's website here or Facebook page here. The proposed map options can be viewed on the Brookhaven city website here. Here's how you can weigh in: Sending an email to [email protected] in the meeting via Zoom at https://us02web.zoom.us/j/88147896256Dialing in via phone (Use Webinar access code 881 4789 6256):312-626-6799, 929-436-2866, 301-715-8592, 346-248-7799, 669-900-6833, or 253-215-8782The COVID-19 pandemic caused the U.S. Census Bureau to be delayed in receiving local census data, which is expected to be released in late September. But qualifying dates for the November elections in Brookhaven are Aug. 18-20, and local census data is key when it comes to redistricting and elections. City council members approved a contract between the city and FLO Analytics at the Feb. 23 business meeting to address this issue. The U.S. Census Bureau released state-level census data April 26. You can see how Georgia fared here. The final vote on the charter amendment for redistricting will be held May 4.
