On Wednesday, March 24, 2021, Children’s Museum of Atlanta welcomed under-resourced families in the Atlanta area to its Family Free Day, offering an immersive day at the Museum free of charge. A twist on the traditional Family Free Day format due to the ongoing pandemic, a limited number of families from Connected Learning Connected Communities, Spread the Word and members of CareSource played, learned and interacted with Children’s Museum of Atlanta’s six permanent exhibits, as well as the traveling The Pigeon Comes to Atlanta! A Mo Willems Exhibit, forgoing the standard admission fee. Family Free Days are generously presented by the PNC Foundation with supporting sponsorship provided by CareSource and Publix Super Markets Charities. Children’s Museum of Atlanta’s mission with Family Free Days is to provide access to the joys of the Museum to families that may not otherwise be able to afford it. In addition to program support, the PNC Foundation donated copies of “The Pigeon Needs a Bath,” signed by author Mo Willems to this year’s Family Free Day visitors. “PNC’s sponsorship of the Children Museum’s Family Free Day reflects our ongoing commitment to providing Atlanta’s young children and families with expanded access to engaging experiences, even during challenging times such as these,” said Eddie Meyers, PNC regional president of Greater Georgia. “We believe it’s critically important to equip families with resources to support early learners in the communities that need it the most.” Prioritizing the health and safety of its guests, the Museum implemented enhanced COVID-wellness safety measures during this year’s Family Free Day, including limited capacity precautions. The engaging event welcomed select groups of underserved families to ensure social distancing during each session. “While Family Free Day looked a bit different this year, we would like to express our immense gratitude to the PNC Foundation for its continued support of this important community outreach program,” said Jane Turner, executive director of Children’s Museum of Atlanta. “We look forward to continuing this impactful day in the years to come.” Thanks to Children’s Museum of Atlanta’s donors, Family Free Days will be available to the community through 2022.
