Why people desperate for "free" but can't pay 5 bucks

When selling dear pets that one may have in a home for 10+ years. People contact with grand enthusiasm when its 'free' but should it be 5.00 balk or don't even inquire. That makes no sense. Typically such pet should be 100.+ If it has so little worth to you or your can't even afford a tiny amount, you shouldn't be contacting a seller. They all need some care, money and time.
