Description
Rehoming our male 11 month old Shetland sheepdog. We will be extremely picky about who he goes to. Shetland sheepdogs are not good first pet dogs, they bark often and have high energy. They also require brushing or combing once a week at the minimum. I would prefer he went to someone with experience with the breed, but herding dog experience in general will be considered.
We got him as a puppy back in July and didn't realize just how much Shelties love to bark. We were aware they were vocal dogs, but did not realize that they will bark at birds, bark at people walking down the street, at you when you walk down the hallway, and even bark for no reason. We've tried everything to get him to stop barking, bark collars, spraying him with water, positive re-enforcement when doesn't bark, nothing has worked. For this reason, we would like him to go to someone who is familiar with the breed and/or won't be bothered by a barky dog.
Fenced yard is a MUST. He doesn't always come when he is called and he will run away if your yard is not fenced.
He does great with our female labradoodle and loves to play with her, and has been around cats but it has been a few months because we no longer have our cat. He has never been around children, but I don't see older children being an issue for him. He is neutered and UTD on shots. He will come with any heartworm and flea/tick medication he has, if he has any left at time of rehoming.
Home check and rehoming fee of $350 to ensure he goes to a home that actually wants him and wont turn around and take him to a shelter. Rehoming fee is negotiable to the right home. Thank you.
