MassDOT Prepares For Significant Road Diet Work In Reading

READING, MA — MassDOT will hold a public meeting next month on the Route 28/Main Street Resurfacing and Road Diet Pilot Project in Reading. The project, started in 2019, involves resurfacing and re-marking lanes on North Main Street between the town line and Charles Street and South Main Street between the MBTA railroad crossing and the I-90 interchange. Final paving and lane reconfiguration is set to begin in June. This will create a center turn lane and reduce parts of North and South Main Street from four lanes to three in an effort to improve safety for people traveling along the corridor.
