Description
NEEDHAM, MA — Ninety-four percent of Needham's oldest residents — people over the age of 75 — have received both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, according to the state's data. Over 40 percent of Needham residents as a whole are fully vaccinated, up from 30 percent last week. Roughly 2.1 million people have been fully vaccinated in Massachusetts, the state reported Thursday.
The state numbers account for vaccinations up to April 20 — only one day after eligibility was extended to all people over 16. Nearly a quarter of people under the age of 30 in Needham had received at least one dose at the time of the state's report last week. The number of young people who have received at least one dose is expected to rise in this week's report.
Roughly 23 percent of the town's residents have received just the first dose. Eighty-five percent of residents ages 65 to 74 — the second oldest age group — are fully vaccinated, and 11 percent in that age group have received just their first dose.
