New Rochelle Food Pantry Now Serves Kosher Westchester Families

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Westchester County now has its first food pantry devoted to meeting the needs of kosher families. The HOPE Community Services Kosher food pantry in New Rochelle is expected to serve approximately 100 kosher households in need this year alone. The project is a partnership of HOPE Community Services, Feeding Westchester, Metropolitan Council on Jewish Poverty and the UJA-Federation of New York. "This pantry is a game-changer for local kosher residents," UJA-Federation of New York CEO Eric S. Goldstein said in a statement announcing the new venture. "We thank HOPE Community Services, Feeding Westchester, and Met Council for opening this pantry in Westchester. Individuals and families who struggle all year-round or have been impacted by the pandemic now have a new local resource to bring home nutritious, essential kosher food." SEE ALSO: Millions Made Hungry During Pandemic Could Include Your Neighbor The pantry at 50 Washington Ave. has free, prepackaged, kosher bags available for pick up every other Thursday from 10 am to noon. Scheduled delivery is also available for homebound Westchester residents. HOPE Community Services was able to expand its facilities with a separated kosher space with a grant from the UJA. The expansion allows the food pantry to carry fresh produce supplied by Feeding Westchester and non-perishable items supplied by Met Council while maintaining kosher standards.
