Division Avenue High School Continues Its Homecoming Traditions

LEVITTOWN, NY — Blue Dragon pride was on full display during Division Avenue High School's annual homecoming football game and festivities on April 17. Although there was no homecoming parade this year, the pandemic could not stop the Division Avenue community from cheering on their team and honoring members of the class of 2021 during the eventful day. With health and safety protocols in place, attendees wore masks and showed their support for the Blue Dragons as the players took to the field against the East Rockaway Rocks. Among the spectators was Superintendent of Schools Dr. Tonie McDonald, board members, Division Avenue Principal John Coscia and assistant principals Jaclyn Guidice and Sam McElroy. The Division Avenue cheerleaders showed their spirit on the sidelines as they waved their blue and white pompoms throughout the game. During halftime, the school upheld its homecoming tradition of crowning the school's prince, princess, king and queen from the senior class. The homecoming court was welcomed onto the football field as attendees waited in anticipation for the big reveal. Nicholas Roselli and Natalie Brook Chua were named homecoming prince and princess, respectively, while Daniel Hoang was crowned homecoming king and Alexandra Sweeney was crowned homecoming queen. The halftime festivities continued with special performances from the Division Avenue cheer team and kickline team. The crowd cheered as the students showed their spirit and entertained the crowd. Although the Blue Dragons did not take home the win, the day continued to be a memorable one as the school hosted a senior flower ceremony at the conclusion of the game. Senior cheerleaders, color guard members, football players, kickline and marching band members were announced one by one on the football field with their loved ones as the announcer shared each senior's post-graduation plans. It was a meaningful way to honor the students and their four years of dedication and hard work.
