EAST HAMPTON, NY — A popular HBO series, Succession, is filming in East Hampton all week. According to East Hampton Town Councilwoman Kathee Burke-Gonzalez, liaison to the special events committee, representatives for the series applied for a five-day permit and arrived Sunday at Kirk Park in Montauk and are shooting at sites including Shadmoor State Park, a beach on Old Montauk Highway, and on Beach Lane in Wainscott. So far, the shooting is expected to last until Thursday with an additional day, Friday, still being considered, she said. However, Burke-Gonzalez said, misinformation has been circulating in the form of an email that says residents will not be able to park on Beach Lane Wednesday and Thursday. That is not true, she said: Residents can park as normal and access the beach as they always do. On Thursday evening, a short driving scene will be filmed on Beach Lane, she said; East Hampton Town Police will be onhand and residents will be allowed to head to the beach, or their homes, as normal once the short scene is done, she said. Burke-Gonzalez was thrilled to welcome the HBO team to East Hampton: "What's great is we've always said that we welcome film crews here in the off-season," she said. The timing, during the week in April, is perfect, she said — and the crews have proven to be a boon to locals after a hard year. "From what I understand they booked 100 rooms in Montauk. They're frequenting small businesses, buying cups of coffee. So it's good for the economy," she said. According to HBO, Succession spotlights the Roy family — Logan Roy and his four children; Roy controls one of the biggest media and entertainment conglomerates in the world. "Succession, which was nominated for five 2019 Emmy Awards including Outstanding Drama Series, tracks their lives as they contemplate what the future will hold for them when — or if — their aging father begins to step back from the company," the HBO website said. According to HBO, the third season of Succession is now in production, with Justine Lupe, David Rasche, and Fisher Stevens promoted to series regulars. "Ambushed by his rebellious son Kendall at the end of Season 2, Logan Roy begins Season 3 in a perilous position. Scrambling to secure familial, political, and financial alliances, tensions rise as a bitter corporate battle threatens to turn into a family civil war," HBO said. If you want to catch up, Season 1 and Season 2 of Succession are streaming on HBO Max. The long-running CBS cop drama, "Blue Bloods," also filmed scenes on Long Island this month.
