MONTGOMERY COUNTY, PA — Montgomery County will host the APGA tour this fall, a professional golfing circuit that aims to expand and diversify the sport by showcasing the top minority athletes.
The tour will make a stop on Sept. 20 to Sept. 22 at Bluestone Country Club in Blue Bell, officials announced recently.
"This is a big step for the APGA Tour," CEO Ken Bentley said in a statement. "The VFTCB hosts major golf events and, as we grow, it's important to establish a presence in the Montgomery County/Philadelphia market."
Several top players from the tour earned berths in the PGA Tour earlier this year, including Kevin Hall, Kamaiu Johnson, and Willie Mack.
Launched in 2010, the APGA (Advocates Professional Golf Association) has offered tens of thousands in prize money in past years and hosting seven tournaments in 2020. It has grown exponentially in size in recent months, and 2021 will feature almost twice as many tournaments as well as $350,000 in prizes.
The field of players, including Philadelphia-area golfers, will be announced soon, organizers said.
