Eighth Blackbird's Chicago Artists Workshop (CAW) live streamed performance series continues in May with 5th Wave Collective (May 5) and Half Gringa (May 13). All CAW events are hosted at the Eighth Blackbird production space located at 4045 N. Rockwell St. These live-streamed ticketed events will also feature limited in-person seating. For more information visit eighthblackbird.org. 7 p.m., Wednesday, May 5: 5th Wave Collective 5th Wave Collective is a Chicago-based classical music ensemble dedicated to the performance and promotion of music by womxn and gender-nonconforming composers. The composers whose works are performed by 5th Wave Collective each have their own story of oppression, passion and survival. "They have been systematically silenced for decades, and it is our mission to bring their stories to the fore." 7 p.m. Thursday, May 13, Half Gringa Isabel Olive is the songwriter and multi-instrumentalist at the core of Half Gringa, when asked to place her music in a specific genre, "when your mom loved Bruce Springsteen and Maná and sometimes your brain starts playing them at the same time." The name Half Gringa is both a tribute to and study of her legacy, stemming from a childhood term of endearment as "la Gringa" in her Venezuelan family and her bicultural experience growing up in the United States. Olive's work seeks to narrate her tireless pursuit as a pupil of both her origins and her experiences. Eighth Blackbird's Chicago Artists Workshop Series live streamed performances by 5th Wave Collective (May 5) and Half Gringa (May 13) will be staged at the Eighth Blackbird production facility located at 4045 N. Rockwell St. There is also limited in-person seating. Suggested ticket price per household is $20, but options include choosing a price as well as contributing as a supporter.
