WARREN, OH — U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan launched his Senate bid on Monday. In a video announcing his bid, Ryan positioned himself as a champion for Ohio's workers, saying he would work with anyone to rebuild the economy, but would never sell out working class Ohioans. Ryan, 47, a Democrat from Warren, will try to win the seat being abandoned by Sen. Rob Portman. Ryan is a 10-term congressman who first rose to national attention when he unsuccessfully challenged Rep. Nancy Pelosi for House leadership. Portman, a longtime Republican figure in Ohio, announced in January he would not seek re-election. He said increasing polarization drove his decision to leave politics. Ohio has been trending Republican over the past two decades. The state broke for Donald Trump in the 2020 presidential election. However, the state has long sent Sen. Sherrod Brown to Congress, a rare progressive presence in the Buckeye State. I'm running for U.S. Senate to fight like hell to cut workers in on the deal. pic.twitter.com/O1hkLdS1up— Tim Ryan (@TimRyan) April 26, 2021
