RIVERHEAD, NY — Three Riverhead students have ensured even four-legged friends are sporting school spirit — they designed a new company, Blue Waves Bandanas, to deck the pooches out in style.
The three Riverhead High School students created the dog bandana company as part of a basic skills development and occupational education class, the district said.
Students Ashley Censoprano, Wendy Palacios Paulino, and Joselyn Valentin formed the company as a way to hone their social and work skills while also spreading school spirit — many of their bandanas feature the Riverhead "R" on them, the district said.
The students sell their "R" bandanas for $4, with personalized bandanas priced at $5 each; the money they earn is used to purchase additional supplies to keep the project moving forward, the district said.
The trio has learned to take, track, and package orders while developing skills in marketing and business accounting — and next, they will be competing in the Riverhead Chamber of Commerce's "Chamber Tank" business competition, styled after the popular TV show "Shark Tank," this week, the district said.
