Description
ON-CALL seasonal position on a wildland fire engine.
DUTIES: You will be an active member of our wildland fire engine crew, aggressively fighting wildfires all over the Western United States, providing water and mobile support to hand crews, establishing and providing structure protection, along with many other fire suppression activities.
COMPENSATION: Pay starts at $250 per day and most all expenses are covered from the time you leave the dispatch center. Typical season runs approximately from July to October but varies each year.
HOURS/DAYS: Be prepared to work long hours for many days at a time. Typical deployments are from 14 to 21 days, sometimes longer. Position is an ON-CALL BASIS. You must have a cell phone, and have readily available transportation to Sheridan, Wyoming, Billings, Montana, or a pickup point somewhere in-between. From the time we receive our resource orders, we have three hours to check in at the dispatch center in Billings, Montana.
EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS: 8" tall leather boots with leather laces and Vibram type soles, sleeping bag, tent, headlamp, and personal hygiene items. Everything else that is required will be provided.
FIREFIGHTER 2 TRAINING CERTIFICATES ARE REQUIRED: Experience is preferred but not required but you must have the basic wildland training as listed *below. If you do not have this training but would like to become a certified wildland firefighter and work on our crew, I can help you find a place to get the training. Some training is available online, some I can provide, and the rest is available through Forest Service approved trainers. I am happy to help you with this if you have an interest.
