GENERAL RESPONSIBIITIES: • Assists in the responsibility for the general condition of the school grounds. • Assists in the responsibility for the care and maintenance of athletic fields. • Assists in the removal of snow from parking lots, walkways, high traffic areas. • Assists in the applying of salt to parking lots, walkways, high traffic areas. • Performs duties as organized and assigned by the Head Groundskeeper. TYPICAL EXAMPLES OF WORK: • Mows, edges, and trims lawns. • Plants and trims shrubbery. • Sprays, waters and fertilizes lawns and shrubbery. • Sods and seeds. • Marks athletic fields. • Help care for stands, bleachers and associated buildings. • Keeps parking lots and sidewalks free of ice and snow. • Various set-up responsibilities: Moving tables and chairs. COMPETENCIES: The successful candidate must be able to pass the state operator’s test within 90-days and maintain the state operator’s license for herbicides. The successful candidate must have the following skills and/or abilities: • Speak, read, and write English. • Ability to lift 50 lbs. • Ability to follow oral and written instructions. • Skill in handling the tools necessary to the job. • Knowledge to follow directions in the use of fertilizers, sprays, and other turf-building practices. • Ability to do heavy work out-of-doors and in the elements. • Ability to work well with other people. • Ability to read and write the English language. • Snow removal of large-scale commercial lots • Hold valid and current Driver’s License – Pass Motor Vehicle check. • Pre-employment background and drug test required. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: * This position will require periodic overtime.
