Job Overview: As a dock hand, you perform maintenance for a marina and assist the marina team in serving their clients. Your primary responsibilities include making sure all areas are clean while adhering to and maintaining quality standards. You help dock workers with duties such as securing boats to docks, monitoring power, water, and phone services, facility sanitation, black water pump-out, and waste disposal. You are expected to provide excellent customer service and complete requests. You operate a boat and other equipment as needed and help the team maintain general security while reporting potential concerns. You are also responsible for refueling boats when required and completing other routine maintenance. Responsibilities · Maintenance and repair on all dock systems both floating and fixed. ·· Maintenance and repair of all vehicles, equipment, tools and lawn equipment. · Maintenance and repair on all buildings, fixtures and supporting equipment. · Maintaining proper parts and supplies for all equipment in case of emergency repairs. · Responsible maintaining the following documents: · Weekly checklist for dock system. · Maintenance manual and checklist for all vehicles · Winterize manual for docks, buildings, water supply systems and equipment. · Checklist for the above winterization procedures. · Maintenance manuals and checklists for buildings. · Maintain following documents and regulations set forth by Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA): · Maintain written hazardous communication program. · Maintain Material Safety Data Sheets for all hazardous chemicals. · Complete chemical inventory at all times. · Establish safe work practices. · Maintain all fire fighting equipment and assist local fire departments with their annual inspections. · To become familiar and in compliance with NFPA 303 manual. · Implement all emergency procedures for any type of incident that may happen. · Assist in all future expansions of facility to ensure easy maintenance full knowledge of expansion. · Participate on all major repairs and expansion projects from outside contractors to receive at least three (3) qualified bids. · Plan and conduct Marina maintenance and repairs in a timely manner while adhering to budgets and regulatory requirements. · Any other duties as assigned by the Management. Additional Responsibilities · Coordinate the work force under his/her responsibility to ensure safe, smooth operations, wet slip docking, fuelling, maintenance and housekeeping. · Basic knowledge of electrical and plumbing repairs required. Requested to be able to weld. · Heavy lifting required, · Working in high places sometimes required. · Knowledge of painting preparation and painting. · Ability to safely use power tools required. · Maintain supply inventories for maintenance and cleaning supplies, bathroom supplies, tools, and oil spill equipment. · Assistance in special Marina functions · Know correct Tornado, fire, first aid and oil spill, man overboard, and boat sinking procedures - coordinate activities of your workers during implementation of these procedures. · Maintain daily boat activity reports - which doubles as a check list to ensure all boats return to Marina within scheduled "float plan". · Know all harbor regulations, contractual provisions, enforcement policies, and rate schedules. · Report all boat, rack, dock damage to Management immediately & make effective repairs. · Assume additional responsibilities as assigned in the absence of the Harbormaster Decision Impact A bad decision in facility maintenance can cause temporary or permanent loss of the storage and/or dockage units and equipment as well as the loss of customer's boats. Customer service and Marina revenues could suffer significant losses, and the repair or replacement expenses could be in the hundreds of thousands of dollars. Minimum Qualifications · Working knowledge of how a Marina works in the physical dimensions, such as: · Dock systems · Electrical system · Plumbing · Mechanical · Equipment · Welding · Working understanding of Safety procedures and record keeping. · Ability to relate to customer satisfaction. · Understanding of how to plan for preventive maintenance and new project costing, bidding and implementing. · Basic business skills for understanding and adhering to job costing and budgeting. · General knowledge of Marina facility and its operations. · Must have an exhibit a pleasant personality and demonstrate the ability to get along with customers and co-workers. · Basic mechanical and handyman skills. · Ability to swim and know man overboard procedures and general first aid. · Some small boat handling skills.
