TUCSON, AZ — A 52-year-old man was killed while confronting a pair of carjackers in a parking garage in Tucson early Sunday morning, police in the city have said. Mark Edward Doe has been identified as the fatal victim of the shooting that unfolded just after 2 a.m. at the garage at 345 E. Congress St. Tucson police said Doe was shot by the carjackers while he was one of a number of people to confront them as they made off with a white Nissan pickup truck. Police said they found the stolen pickup truck around noon near East Speedway Boulevard and North 4th Avenue, but the driver fled from officers, initiating a pursuit and fired shots at police, police said. Police did not fire back, and eventually ended the pursuit without catching the driver. The truck was found abandoned in the 5100 block of East 22nd Street, police said, and the driver fled on foot. A SWAT team, K9 unit and air unit responded, but the suspect remained on the run after a search was called off at 4 p.m. A description of the suspect was not released by police. Police have asked people with information to report tips by calling 911 or 88-CRIME.
