Every year, hundreds of young men and women in Arizona make the important decision to serve our country in the armed forces. This year, the City of Tempe will celebrate them in person at a special send-off ceremony this Monday, April 26 at 6 p.m. at Tempe Center for the Arts. This celebration is for future serviceman and family members only and is not open to the public.
"Though we remain in very challenging times, these incredible men and women are stepping up to serve their country," said Tempe Mayor Corey Woods. "We are thrilled to recognize these individuals and let them know they are in our hearts and on our minds. We are grateful for their decision to serve."
Each recruit will receive a commemorative First to Say Thank You coin before they deploy. There will be remarks and performances by:
Mayor Corey Woods Colonel Wanda Wright, US Air Force (retired) National Anthem by Sophia PIzzilo Marine Corps Color Guard This will be the seventh year of Tempe Community Salutes, which was the vision of Vice Mayor Arredondo-Savage. "It was the first program of its kind in the state to demonstrate support for high school seniors and their families," Arredondo-Savage said.
