UAH Announces Faculty Promotion And Tenure Decisions For 2020-21 Academic Year

From the University of Alabama at Huntsville: April 22, 2021 By Russ Nelson The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH), a part of The University of Alabama System, announced that 10 faculty members have been recognized for their outstanding performance and overall excellence by being awarded tenure and/or promotion effective the 2021-2022 academic year. These faculty include seven members awarded tenure and promotion to Associate Professor, two promotions in academic rank to Professor and one promotion to Senior Lecturer. "It gives me great pleasure to announce the 2020-2021 tenure and promotion decisions," says Christine W. Curtis, UAH Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs. "These decisions resulted from extensive reviews by faculty colleagues at the department, college and university levels and, in appropriate cases, references by distinguished colleagues from other academic institutions. My decisions took into account those reviews and the recommendations of the chairs and deans. President Dawson concurred with the decisions." The faculty members recognized include: Award of Tenure and Promotion to Associate Professor Dr. Kavan Hazeli, Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Dr. John Harfouch, Philosophy Dr. Maria Pour, Electrical and Computer Engineering Dr. Shannon Mathis, Kinesiology Dr. Jeremy Elliott, Kinesiology Dr. Sarah Roller, Curriculum and Instruction Dr. Sandra Lampley, Curriculum and Instruction Promotion to Professor Dr. Emil Jovanov, Electrical and Computer Engineering Dr. Derrick Smith, Curriculum and Instruction Promotion to Senior Lecturer Dr. Mary Alice Smeal, Mathematical Sciences "The newly promoted and tenured faculty have achieved high levels of excellence in the areas of research, teaching and service," says Dr. Curtis. "They are a tribute to the faculty who recruited them, mentored them and encouraged them along the way.
