APPREHENSIVE about the Dog Park? Uxbridge Unleashed, Inc. is offering Welcome & Training Sessions at the park. In a small group setting! Uxbridge Unleashed, Inc. understands that you and your pup may be apprehensive about using the Uxbridge Dog Park. To that end, we are pleased to introduce our WELCOME TO THE PARK - TRAINING PROGRAM! In collaboration with the Blackstone Regional Animal Shelter, Stonewall Canine, and Infinite Pawz-ibilities. The cost for this program have been offset with a grant from the Douglas Cultural Council, Town of Douglas, MA. Class Size is Limited.Small Group SettingLarge Dog Groups (Over 30 lbs)Small Dog Groups (Under 30 lbs)Exclusive use of the Uxbridge Dog Park for these private events.Different Dates/Times Available to meet your schedule.Here is a synopsis of what you can expect: (Subject to change) WELCOME TO THE PARK - TRAINING PROGRAM 1. Before Going to the Park - Importance of exercise / walking first - Must be a little bit tired - Must know RULES, BOUNDARIES, & LIMITATIONS - Can’t be social if we are frustrated 2. Assess & Evaluate - All people and dogs. - Time spent outside the park helps inside - Dogs obsessed with balls/territorial w/food or other objects 3. Positive Energy - How to enter/exit (15 min) - Breathing exercise (5-5) - How Dogs get to know each other (nose, eyes, ears) - How Humans get to know each other (ears, eyes, nose) - Meeting Dogs: Where to look. How to move. What to say (handler) - Meeting Dog to Dog. The importance of building a pack (Dog and humans) making relationships while in motion and making friends. 4. Dog Responses - Stress - Fight - Flight - Avoidance - Freeze - Fool around - What makes a dog choose? 5. Breaking up PLAY - When to step in and how to do it - Stop a fight before it begins - Teaching to play nicely - Recalling your dog 6. Handling Techniques - Aggression vs. Stress. What's it look like? - Leashes / tools. What to use & when? - Do’s & Don'ts of using rewards (food, toys, etc.) 7. Wrap up/ Q&A - Dog / Humans - Pack Leader / Alpha - Play / Work - Review Uxbridge Unleashed, Inc. is a federally recognized 501c3 non-profit that was formed to educate and advocate for responsible dog ownership. By providing and coordinating volunteers, fundraising and general maintenance for the benefit of the Uxbridge Dog Park. Our aim is to provide a clean, safe, environment where dogs can run off-leash and to foster social interactions between citizens within the park.
