NEW YORK CITY — Another attack on an Asian person in New York City is under investigation by the New York Police Department's Hate Crime Task Force. A 61-year-old man was hit in the back and then kicked several times after he fell to the ground near the northeast corner of 3rd Avenue and East 125th Street in East Harlem Friday around 8:20 p.m. The victim has been hospitalized at NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem, where he remained in critical, but stable, condition Saturday morning, police said. Police described the suspect as an adult man with a dark complexion, last seen wearing a black jacket, black pants, white sneakers and a multi-colored baseball cap. A surveillance video, shown below, captured a few moments of the latest attack on an Asian person in New York City. Friday night's attack in East Harlem is the latest in a string of attacks on Asian people in New York. Other recent attacks on Asian Americans have included the brutal assault of a 65-year-old woman in Hell's Kitchen, which was captured on video last month and sparked widespread outrage. Community leaders have attributed the rise in attacks in part to the rhetoric used by former President Donald Trump, who used racist language to tie COVID-19 to China.
