Help save the Tule Elk at Point Reyes

Description

The California Coastal Commission (CCC) has given its blessing to the National Park Service’s (NPS) new General Management Plan to expand the POLLUTING NATIONAL RANCHING OPERATIONS at Point Reyes National Seashore and extend their leases. In this most violent blow, this decision sanctions the annual shooting of some of the park’s rare and iconic Tule elk. And the killing could begin any day! Let the California Coastal Commission and the National Park Service know what you think of their new General Management Plan. This is not management, it is murder. Point Reyes National Seashore is located in the North Central Coast District of the California Coastal Commission. If you'd like to let them know what you think of this decision, call or e-mail . Join a Community Rally on Saturday, May 1 at the Point Reyes National Seashore from 11 am to Noon to protest this decision. To be clear, recent surveys have registered that 90% of the public is opposed to these plans! National parks were created to offer the highest level of wild animal and environmental protection, and Point Reyes National Seashore is in the progressive, environmentally-minded San Francisco Bay Area. And yet the CCC and NPS have decided to sell out this national park to a handful of private, for profit, livestock factories. And in the process, to hunt down and kill innocent animals in brutal fashion! This recent decision is a catastrophe for Point Reyes wild animals. The Tule elk population has already suffered terribly. The largest herd of Tule elk is FENCED into an enclosure at Tomales Point which, in last year’s drought, became a death trap for 152 of a herd of 445 elk. Now it seems death by dehydration is not impactful enough, so elk in the other two herds are to be shot. Nor are the Tule Elk the only victims here. The recent decision is a tragedy for the countless other animals who rely on the park’s coastal vegetation and clean water for their survival. Remember when President Reagan said, "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down that wall"? Well, it's time for all of us to tell the California Coastal Commission and the National Park Service to "Tear Down that Fence" and be the environmental steward that California purports itself to be. If you can, donate to IDA or the Tree Spirit Project, both of whom are working on this issue. I am a private party trying to help the elk and doing my best to summarize the situation as best as I can based on what I've read in the news. https://www.idausa.org/campaign/wild-animals-and-habitats/latest-news/media-release-dramatic-portrait-to-save-dying-tule-elk-on-point-reyes-58th-anniversary/ https://treespiritproject.com/elk/
