Seeking Partner

Oakland CA

Description

Hi there, I’m an Oakland-based songwriter looking to form a formal/professional partnership with a fellow songwriter or a producer who is excellent at recording, mixing, and mastering; good at playing an instrument of some kind; willing to share marketing/social media responsibilities; and interested in a long-term, serious (mostly recording but maybe one day performing) partnership rather than in jamming or occasional collaborations. You can listen to some music I recorded with my old band here: https://onomoto.bandcamp.com/track/song-1. (The other song on this site is solo and unfinished.) I’m especially interested in writing futuristic ambient/space music (Son Lux, Daft Punk, Explosions in the Sky, M83, Tourist) without and occasionally with vocals, but genre is less important than quality and openmindedness. Other influences are (in order of importance) Nina Simone, Radiohead, Bonobo, and Nujabes; various classical music composers (Prokofiev, Philip Glass, Tchaikovsky, Max Richter); various African musicians like Toumani Diabate, Loketo, Fela Kuti, and Franco; numerous indie rock bands; as well as some hip hop and some jazz. In addition to having a similar or higher level of craftspersonship, you should be well versed in racial justice and other forms of social justice (super progressive), kind, someone who cultivates wisdom within themself, stable, and serious about devoting a lot of time to this project—three hours of rehearsals on Saturdays and Sundays to start (while writing and practicing on your own during the week) and eventually making it an actual job (20 hours per week or full time). I currently have a full-time day job, so transitioning to focusing more on music as an actual job would be something we would work toward together. This will probably be easier if you do not have major personal commitments, but I’m open to making this work even in that case provided our sounds complement each other and our visions align. If you live in Oakland or near it, that would be wonderful. In addition to this level of commitment, you must also be willing to (before we even begin working together) negotiate a songwriting agreement in which we discuss and decide on splits (provided we are each contributing roughly the same amount of work, this would be 50-50) and hash out other legalities. My strengths are songwriting (melody and lyrics). However, I am not very good at mixing, mastering, and marketing. So I’m trying to find a partner to grow with in these and other art-related areas. Please include a link to your music on Soundcloud, Youtube, Bandcamp, or Spotify. Thanks for reading, and best of luck.
