LIVERMORE, CA — A man was airlifted from a Livermore campground to a hospital after he accidentally fired a handgun caliber firearm that struck him in the face Friday evening, Lieutenant Terrence Cotcher of the East Bay Regional Park District Police Department told Patch. The man, whose identity was not released, was taken by helicopter Eden Medical Center after the firearm was discharged in Del Valle Regional Park around 5 p.m. Friday. "It was self-inflicted for lack of a better term and the weapon was recovered," Cotcher said. "As of last night he was stable and talking." Cotcher said the man was staying at the campground and that the incident was accidental. "There was no threat to public safety whatsoever," he said.
