RIVERHEAD, NY — Every child deserves a book — and fourth-grade students at the Peconic Community School in Aquebogue worked to create a "Little Free Library" so kids can help themselves.
The new library, designed to look like a rocket ship, "blasted off" at Riverhead's Stotzky Park in Field #3 near the pre-school recently.
"Over the winter, the students decided to build a book-sharing 'Little Free Library' for all children to be able to access books in hopes that hundreds of local children can enjoy the books found within their library for years to come," the Riverhead Town Department of Parks and Recreation said.
Anyone can contribute or take books; just donate books by simply placing them in the Little Free Library book exchange. Those who take a book or two from the Little Free Library do not need to return that exact book, the town said.
