Position Duties and Responsibilities ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Reviews' building plans for compliance with Florida Building Code. Approves plan changes and truss repairs. Performs structural inspections to ensure compliance with approved plans and applicable codes. Calculates building permit fees. Receives and responds to inquiries from homeowners/property owners, contractors, architects, engineers, etc., regarding codes and compliance procedures. Performs general administrative/office work as required, including but not limited to attending meetings, preparing reports and correspondence, copying and filing documents, answering the telephone, etc. Receives, reviews, prepares and/or submits various records and reports including structural plans, truss plans, engineering reports, permit applications, inspection reports, job pricing records and reports, code compliance complaints, correspondence, etc. Interacts and communicates with the immediate supervisor, co-workers, other City department personnel, property/home owners, developers, contractors, architects, engineers, County personnel, general public, etc. Operates a vehicle and a variety of equipment, including a computer, calculator, copier, telephone, etc. Position Requirements/Qualifications MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE Requires a vocational/technical diploma supplemented by ten years of experience as a licensed contractor and five years in structural inspection, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must possess a valid State driver's license. Administration: Broward County - Broward County Board of Rules and Appeals 104.10.1 Certifications of the Structural Plans Examiner: To be eligible for appointment, such person shall be certified as required by the State of Florida, BCAIB as a Structural Plans Examiner and Structural Inspector. Such person shall be certified by BORA and shall meet at least one of the following qualifications: EXCEPTION: Architects and Engineers are exempt from BCAIB certification only. 104.10.1.1 An Architect or an Engineer in the discipline requested and having practiced within the HVHZ for a minimum of three [3] years, and a minimum of two [2] years as an Structural Inspector employed by a municipality or private company contracted with a municipality within the HVHZ. 104.10.2 Seven [7] years' of combined experience as a licensed General Contractor [Unlimited], five [5] years of which shall have been construction experience in the Structural discipline within the HVHZ, and a minimum of two [2] years as a Structural Inspector, of which one [1] year may be Florida School Board Inspector experience, employed by a municipality or private company contracted with a municipality within the HVHZ. 104.10.1.3 Five [5] years' experience as a Structural Plans or Structural Inspector; and three [3] years of construction experience in the Structural discipline, which shall have been within the HVHZ, and certified by BCAIB. 104.10.1.4 An applicant for Certification as a Structural Plans Examiner under the provisions of this section who is a graduate from an accredited school holding a Bachelor or Associate of Science Degree in Engineering, Architecture or Building Construction may be credited for three [3] years for Bachelor Degree or one [1] year for an Associate Degree of the required seven [7] years of combined experience for the Structural discipline. 104.10.1.5 An Applicant for Certification as a Structural Plans Examiner under the provisions of the section, who has passed BORA HVHZ Competency exam may substitute experience within the State of Florida for the required HVHZ experience requirements as specified in Sections 104.10.1.2, 104.10.1.3, and 104.10.1.4. In addition to the aforementioned requirements 104.10.1.6: Each of the applicants shall possess a current certificate of Competency as a General Contractor [Unlimited} issued by at least one of the following entities: A. Florida Construction Industry Licensing Board. B. Broward County Central Examining Board of Building Construction Trades [Class "A" Unlimited General Contractor] Miami-Dade County Construction Trades Qualifying Board, Block proctored- issued on or before January 1, 1968. C. Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation as an Architect or Engineer. **It is the responsibility of the candidate to maintain their licenses and/or certifications as a job requirement.** Emergency Management Responsibilities: Note: During emergency conditions, all City of Miramar employees are automatically considered emergency service workers. City of Miramar employees are subject to being called to work in the event of a disaster, such as a hurricane, or other emergency situation and are expected to perform emergency service duties, as assigned.
