NEW YORK CITY — New York City is turning the corner on its coronavirus fight as infections fall and vaccinations rise. But the much-awaited recovery still remains uneven in pockets scattered across the boroughs, according to the city's data. Mayor Bill de Blasio spent this week in visibly jubilant spirits as the city's average positivity rate fell below 5 percent and stayed there. He tied the rate Friday — 4.45 percent — directly to the city's vaccination effort. "Why do we see constant improvement in the COVID situation?" he said. Because of vaccinations, because of over 6 million vaccinations to date, you can just see the cause and effect right there." But the law of averages means that for every area in the city where the coronavirus is nearly undetected — such as Lenox Hill where positivity is as low as 0.54 percent — there are other neighborhoods with much higher rates. There were 58 ZIP Codes scattered across the city where the average positivity stood at 5 percent or more, as of April 19, according to city data. Ozone Park's 11416 ZIP Code has the highest positivity in the city at 8.97 percent, data shows. Here are the 10 ZIP Codes with the highest average coronavirus positivity over a seven-day period between April 13 and 19: 11416 Ozone Park — 8.97 percent 11355 Flushing/Murray Hill/Queensboro Hill — 8.78 percent 11223 Gravesend/Homecrest — 7.97 percent 11420 South Ozone Park — 7.86 percent 11220 Sunset Park — 7.84 percent 11417 Ozone Park — 7.79 percent 10309 Charleston/Prince's Bay/Woodrow — 7.73 percent 11224 Brighton Beach/Coney Island/Seagate — 7.57 percent 11208 Cypress Hills/East New York — 7.57 percent10307 Tottenville — 7.5 percentAnd here are the ZIP Codes with the lowest positivity rates: 10065 Lenox Hill/Upper East Side — 0.54 percent 10022 East Midtown — 0.68 percent 10471 Fieldston/North Riverdale/Riverdale — 0.72 percent 10128 Upper East Side/Yorkville — 0.82 percent 10023 Lincoln Square — 0.87 percent 10075 Lenox Hill/Upper East Side — 0.91 percent 11109 Long Island City — 0.93 percent 10282 Battery Park City — 0.93 percent 10025 Manhattan Valley/Morningside Heights/Upper West Side — 1.35 percent 10003 East Village/Gramercy/Greenwich Village — 1.38 percentVaccinations in Ozone Park are also lower than the city's average, which stands at 50 percent of people who received at least one dose of vaccine.
