About the Speaker:
Irina Gigova is an Associate Professor of History at the College of Charleston. She arrived at the College of Charleston in 2004, where she has taught surveys of European and Eastern European history, as well as classes focused on cities and urban development, the Cold War, fascism and nationalism. She has published articles on Bulgarian and East European social and cultural history and is working on a book manuscript that uses a generation of writers’ lives and social activities to study processes of state-building, political transition and cultural production in the modern age. She is married to a fellow historian and has two teenage daughters.
