Description

Lighten up people! Join us Saturday May 1 from 10am-12pm at Sports Basement in Berkeley, South Parking Lot. This class is for all backpackers and newbies who want to carry lighter packs. The class is participatory and hands-on. We will help each other find the lightest and best solutions to reducing pack weight and making backpacking more enjoyable. Please bring your current backpack and gear to the class if you have one – not required - just as if you were going backpacking, but without food and fuel. We will do a class weigh-in and identify solutions to help you solve your pain points. Instructor: Leif Magnuson At 19, Leif hopped a freight train from St. Paul, Minnesota to Whitefish, Montana. He then hitchhiked and backpacked into the Bob Marshall Wilderness Area and fasted for 3 days. His coming-of-age odyssey was just the beginning of a life spent exploring and preserving the natural environment. Beginning in 2012, Leif embraced Ultralight backpacking in earnest. His pack base weight is now just under 10 pounds. He wants to share the joys and freedom of a lighter pack with others. Leif has led or participated in over 50 trips in the US, Canada, Mexico and Europe. This homemade ultralight cook kit weighs in at just 8.9 ounces, without fuel. Carrying a light pack makes it so much more enjoyable to hike stunningly beautiful trails like The Bright Angel Trail in the Grand Canyon.
