German Shepherd Rescue Event Comes To Dog Krazy In Leesburg

LEESBURG, VA — The Virginia German Shepherd Rescue will host an adoption event at Dog Krazy in Leesburg on Saturday, April 24. The event will run from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. and volunteers will be available to answer questions about the rescue, the breed, or the adoption process. Volunteers with the German Shepherd Rescue said that demand for dogs has increased since the start of the coronavirus pandemic. Saturday's event gives the dogs some in-person exposure, and allows volunteers to explain the unique needs of German Shepherds. "The main issue with all of this demand is that German Shepherds are not for everyone," said Herbert Tate, president of the Virginia German Shepherd Rescue. "We work very hard trying to find the best possible home for our dogs." Tate said that the rescue has a low return rate for their dogs, as a result of their efforts to carefully match dogs with suitable owners. "German Shepherds are very loyal to their owners and need someone to be the leader of the pack," Tate said. "They can have a tendency to become over protective of the home if the proper leadership is not in place." Bonnie Lundin is the event coordinator with the rescue. "We are not a kennel organization as all of our dogs are in foster homes across the state of Virginia," Lundin said. She also noted that everyone is welcome at Saturday's event. "The events are open to everyone to come visit, meet our dogs, and learn more about our rescue." The rescue holds events across Virginia on a monthly basis. Their dogs visit Leesburg every month, and other adoption events are held in Bristow, Burke, and Fredericksburg.
