This story was updated at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, April 23 UNION COUNTY, NJ — Any New Jersey resident aged 16 and up became eligible for the coronavirus vaccine this past Monday. On Friday, a CDC Panel recommended resuming the Johnson & Johnson vaccine after reviewing reports of 13 women getting blood clots — three fatal — out of 7.98 million receiving the shot. Where to get the vaccine this week Besides registering for an appointment on the state's hub for any of the state's six megasites, the state has been updating its list of Union County sites (see this week's list below), including with community pharmacies in Westfield, Cranford, and more. In addition, a FEMA megasite in Newark launched two weeks ago and is available for those who don't drive. It's worth checking the sites several times daily, including early in the morning. Seniors in Union County can call this number if they have no computer access: 908-613-7829, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 to 1 on Saturday. The town of Westfield noted that it has been getting the vaccine to populations in underserved areas, and taking names of homebound seniors who need it. Homebound Westfield residents can call the Health Department at 908-789-4070 to receive more information about the homebound COVID-19 vaccination program. Other information In New Jersey, on Monday, there were 27 new deaths reported since the day before. The state has seen a total of 22,323 deaths total.As of the most recent hospitalization count on Monday, 2,261 people are hospitalized with the virus, 448 of those in critical care. There are 958 reports of CDC variants of concern.The state's daily death toll has never declined to the level of Sept. 8, when only 2 deaths were reported in one day. New Jersey's peak daily death toll on April 30, 2020 was 460 fatalities reported in one day.
