Description
Celebrate the return of spring & get back into the garden! Meet other local gardeners, share tips & tricks, and have a libation or two! Calling all gardeners! Let’s get together to discuss our garden plans for this year, and any lessons we learned from last year. We will celebrate the return of spring and all the opportunities to get back outside and into the garden! Feel free to bring extra divided perennials, seeds, or just ideas to share. Whether you followed along with our weekly gardening tutorials last year, or have been this year, or not: join us for these monthly Happy Hours in our garden. You’ll have the opportunity to meet other backyard gardeners from the area and grow our gardening community. Farm Table and Hungry Turtle Farm gardening instructors, Sal and Sue, will take questions, facilitate discussion on our monthly theme, and you’ll all learn from each other while enjoying a drink in the gentle summer air. We’ll gather at Farm Table’s patio/garden area from 6:30 to 8 PM every second Thursday, May through September. The cost of $15 includes one drink (beer, wine, or kombucha); come early to grab a meal at Farm Table’s restaurant! Limit of 15 folks, so reserve your spot today. [Please follow CDC recommendations for proper sanitation and social distancing practices. This event will be held outside, but bring your mask for times when social distancing is not possible. In case of inclement weather, the event will be held the following week, Thursday from 6:30-8 PM.] Sal Daggett is in her fourth year of running Roosterhaven, a sustainable farm specializing in produce, perennial fruits, and poultry. She and her partner Joe, a chef-turned-farmer, market their crops to nearby restaurants and through retail sales on the farm. For a decade prior to becoming a full-fledged farmer, Sal was an avid backyard gardener, focusing on vegetables as well as medicinal and culinary herbs. Sal has an academic and professional background in biology and education, focusing on soil science, ecological restoration, and environmental justice. These ideas have informed the way she works with the land, attempting to reflect natural cycles and integrate agriculture into native plant and animal communities. Sue Katt is the Farm Director at Hungry Turtle Farm, where they focus on vegetable seed saving and raising heritage breeds. Sue farmed in Vermont for many years before landing in Amery, raising vegetables, seedlings, blueberries, grass-fed beef, and producing maple syrup. Prior to that, Sue spent 10 years coordinating the Duluth Community Garden Program, where she provided education on organic gardening and composting.
