Let's talk about the hot topic. The Ooodle Woodle Snoodle Doodle the Poodle movement. I'll see if I can help explain, for everyone, in very black and white. People have been breeding dogs for hundreds of years. Check. Accidental breeding, check! Purposeful breeding, check! Okay, we're good so far. Purebreds were created, stud books and registries. Suddenly, people who wanted a dog knew what breed of dog to buy just based on what they were bred for. Dog, mans best friend has always *had a purpose.* Sure, their were mutts and mongrels roaming about, but even those often times were turned into specific breeds by the lower class people. Cool fact! Check out the Kerry Blue Terrier! Dog shows become a thing. Not just a fashion show or a fancy for rich people, but conformation testing to prove by multiple certified judges opinions that that dog has form and function ability. That its body can move and do what it was bred to do. Check! Health testing becomes a thing for dogs. Purebred dog breeders decide to have standardized testing so that they can be sure only the best quality and healthy dogs get bred from. Check! So now fast forward to now. Poodle breeders feel affronted that their breed, one that has been specifically cultivated for YEARS is being mixed and bred with anything and everything. "Doodled." A new designer breed! Wait, no not just 1 breed. There's the Aussiedoodle, Bernedoodle, Yorkipoo, Sheepadoodle, etc. to name a few. What is the purpose of these breeds? What are they being bred to DO? See, Poodles may have this cool coat, hair you'd say, but they were bred to be hunting dogs. What do you get when you breed a hunting dog with a Herding bred dog? One that chases livestock. And that my friends is how the farmer shoots your dog. Let's do another some others just fun. What do you get when you cross a hunting dog, with a dog that is bred to do protection work? Or a carting breed? Or a lap dog? What is the PURPOSE for these dogs? That is what everyone is asking. Sadly, I think I know the answer. And it's very sad. (Check the animal control euthanasia room floor after they put down 50 pets per day and it gets even more heartbreaking.) Even if you breed out of love. Even if you health test your breeding stock. Even if you have the best of intentions of creating cute family pets, and they ARE! "Doodles" earn people money. Not just some. LOTS. See, purebred breeders, they generally sell their puppies with health testing AND papers.... For about a thousand dollars. That's right. $1k. And they expect that. **They do it for the love of their BREED and they don't care what you are making for profits. Honestly.** A doodle is not a breed though. They are so far just a mutt. A mongrel. And *most* everyone who breeds them, does it for the simple fact that they sell for five thousand dollars, $5k... And up. Maybe in the future this will all change. I highly doubt it. Let me also say in advance that no, this was not an anti breeding post, even if you choose to breed mixed breeds. I just want people to reach a point of understanding. If such a thing is possible on this topic.
