DAVIDSON, NC — Bottled water in Davidson is set to have a hometown look, thanks to the winning artwork of a Community School of Davidson student. A line drawing downtown scene featuring iconic Davidson landmarks submitted by Gianna Ziegler, an 11th grader at the school, was selected as the winning bottle design for Boomerang Water. The Davidson-based small batch water bottling company, which aims to curb the use of single-use plastic water bottles through a glass bottle refill program, sponsored the bottle design competition for 2,000 limited edition bottles in honor of Earth Day. Students participating in the contest represented Davidson Day School, Davidson Green School, the Community School of Davidson, Davidson K-8 and Woodlawn School. "Community involvement is foundational to who we are as a school, and COVID has limited our ability to do this. We are grateful Boomerang created an opportunity for our students to get involved locally with this competition, which tied in well with our water quality curriculum," Kathleen McIntyre, Sustainability Coordinator at Davidson Green School, said in a statement. Area water drinkers will be able to enjoy Ziegler's art work for some time to come, according to the company. "What's exciting is that while we're launching this initiative for Earth Day, the bottles will remain in circulation throughout Davidson for months to come, since Boomerang's closed loop reuses our bottles to eliminate waste," Boomerang spokesperson Shaun Zaken told Patch. Boomerang is giving out glass bottles with the winning design at Davidson Farmer's Market Saturday, it said.
