Job Description: Piping Rock Equestrian Center is a year-round horseback riding and boarding facility in Truckee, California. Spanning over 26 acres, the barn welcomes Western and English riders of all ages and levels. The barn offers a variety of year-programs ranging from Hunter/Jumper lessons to Working Cow Horse Clinics. During the summer, Piping Rock offers a variety of summer programs for children ages 5 through 14. Piping Rock Equestrian is seeking Summer Camp Counselors and wranglers for 2021. Exact hours to be determined but will typically be from 8am till 4:00pm. For the right person, the position has the ability to be extended throughout the fall. Responsibilities include: Fostering a safe, fun and engaging environment for children ages 5 through 14 Implementing the curriculum that is set by Camp Director Communicating with parents and collaborating with other PREC staff and junior counselors Caring for the health and safety of the animals Requirements: Physically capable of doing heavy work on the farm Comfortable working with horse, ponies and a variety of other farm animals including but not limited to goats, chickens and pigs Strong collaborative skills, must be able to communicate with other camp counselors and other PREC staff Must be positive and outgoing with a “make it work” attitude Must be punctual and organized. You must be able to prep and close your “campsite” for the day, including but not limited to cleaning up, organizing camper tack and helmets and taking care of the animals Open Positions Critter Camp Counselor: Teach a morning and afternoon camp: 9am-4pm. Patience and the ability to work with young children is a must. Pony/Horse Camp Counselor: Teach a morning and afternoon camp: 9am-12pm and the second from 1pm-4pm. A strong understanding of horses and teaching children to ride is a must. Wrangler: Take guests out on our variety of trails, instructing on proper horseback technique as well as making guests feel safe and entertained. Must be an excellent rider who understands proper equine care and safety. Compensation: Salary will be based on qualifications and experience.
