Many states have already decriminalized recreational usage of cannabis. 90% of Americans believe that pot should be decriminalized for either recreational or medicinal use at the federal level. I do not use cannabis. I support the legalization for several reasons: I do not think that it is any of our governments business what we consume. I think marijuana convictions are a HUGE waste of our resources. Police waste time making arrests for pot, courts and jails waste resources on pot convictions. In my experience, pot is far more inert than people using alcohol. People who smoke pot are not prone to violence while under the influence. Legalizing pot will take power and money away from the drug cartels. Personally, I think junk food (twinkies, McDonald’s, sugary sodas, etc.) is far more detrimental to society than marijuana is. Legalizing pot would decrease government spending by BILLIONS and increase government revenue by BILLIONS in taxes.
